Elizabeth Gaskell

Elizabeth Gaskell, 1810-1865, produced no less than 46 written works during her lifetime, including novels, short stories, and non-fiction. She set a new precedent for Victorian women by succeeding as a writer, mother, and wife. Some of her more famous works are North and South and Cranford.
